How to Use and Redeem a Cineworld Gift Card in the UK: Step-by-Step Guide

To use a Cineworld gift card online, start a booking at cineworld.co.uk, pick your film, cinema, showtime and seats, then choose Gift Card under Payment Methods and enter your gift card number and PIN. Cineworld's own help centre describes this as the route for both physical Gift Cards and e-Gift Cards. In a cinema, you present the card (or the digital card on your phone) at the box office or concessions till and it is used as payment for tickets, food and drink. That is the whole flow — everything below is detail on where the code lives, what can go wrong, and where the rules differ.

What a Cineworld gift card can pay for

According to Cineworld's gift card terms and retailer listings, the balance can be put towards cinema tickets, retail items such as popcorn and drinks, and an Unlimited membership purchased online. It is not cash, cannot be exchanged for cash, and is not a credit or charge card.

One thing worth knowing before you book: Cineworld's terms state that when tickets are booked online and paid for with a Gift Card, e-Gift Voucher or Gift Box voucher, a per-person booking fee usually applies. If you want to avoid the booking fee, paying in person at the cinema is generally the alternative.

Step-by-step: redeeming online

1. Go to cineworld.co.uk and sign in to your My Cineworld account. An account is not always mandatory for a basic booking, but it makes applying codes and resolving problems much easier.
2. Select your cinema, film and showtime.
3. Choose your ticket types and quantity, then select your seats.
4. Continue to the payment page.
5. Under Payment Methods, select Gift Card.
6. Enter the gift card number and the PIN exactly as shown on your card or in your email. Copy and paste rather than retyping where you can.
7. Apply the card and check that the outstanding total has dropped. Cineworld's terms note that when a gift is redeemed online you may also be asked to enter debit or credit card details for identification and processing purposes — this is normal, and is also how you would settle any remaining balance.
8. Complete the booking and keep the confirmation email.

If your basket costs more than your gift card balance, the usual behaviour is that the gift card covers part of the total and you pay the rest by card. If it costs less, the remaining balance stays on the gift card for later. Cineworld's terms mention that a remaining e-Gift Voucher balance is displayed on screen and can also be checked online via the gift card section of cineworld.co.uk.

Step-by-step: redeeming in a Cineworld cinema

1. Go to the box office or a concessions counter at any participating Cineworld cinema.
2. Say you are paying with a Cineworld gift card before the transaction is rung through.
3. Hand over the physical card, or show the digital card / e-gift card details on your phone. Have the card number and PIN visible in case the till needs them keyed in.
4. Pay any difference by another method if the total exceeds your balance.
5. Keep the card or the email — leftover balance remains usable.

Note that Cineworld and Picturehouse are related but operate separately, and some Cineworld-issued vouchers explicitly exclude Picturehouse venues. If you plan to use a gift card at a Picturehouse site, ask staff first rather than assuming.

Where to find the code

• Digital / e-gift cards: the delivery email or voucher page contains a long gift card number and a separate PIN. Both are needed for online payment. Cards bought from Aussui are delivered by email instantly after purchase, so the code arrives in your inbox rather than by post.

Gift card, voucher, or ticket code? They are not the same

This is where most people go wrong. Cineworld's site has more than one place to enter a code, and they are not interchangeable:

• Gift Card / e-Gift Card → entered as a payment method on the payment page, using number and PIN.
• Third-party or promotional vouchers → per Cineworld's help centre, these go into a "Voucher or CEA Card" box earlier in the booking, and you click "Add Voucher".
• Ticket codes → Cineworld's guidance points to a field labelled along the lines of "Got a ticket code or CEA carer card?", where you add the code before seat selection.
• Tesco Clubcard partner codes → a separate field again, on the payment page.

If a gift card code is rejected, check you are not typing it into a voucher field, and vice versa.

Regional restrictions

Cineworld operates in both the UK and Ireland, and its terms distinguish between the two: for at least some gift products, where prepayment was made in Euros, redemption is on the Cineworld Ireland site rather than the UK site. Cineworld also states that to register for or use a My Cineworld account you must be resident in the UK or Ireland and aged 16 or over.

Expiry is one point where sources disagree. Cineworld's own terms give a specific validity window for e-Gift Box Vouchers (a period running to 30 June of the following year in the UK, longer in Ireland), while at least one major retail listing for the standard Cineworld e-Gift Card states the balance expires 24 months from the last payment or top-up, and another retailer quotes 12 months. Because these are different products with different rules, check the expiry date printed on your own card or stated in your own delivery email rather than relying on a general figure.

3. Check the balance via the gift card page on cineworld.co.uk before assuming the card is broken — a partly used card will not cover a full basket.
4. Check the date. An expired balance will be declined outright.
5. Try the other channel. If online payment fails, try the same card at a cinema till, or vice versa. Site and app behaviour can differ between versions, and a code that will not apply in one interface sometimes works in another.
6. Contact Cineworld customer service with the card number, the delivery email and the time of the failed attempt. Cineworld is the issuer and the only party that can inspect or reissue a balance.
