How to Use and Redeem a Discord Nitro Gift Card: Full Step-by-Step Guide

To use a Discord Nitro gift card, you redeem the code on the Discord desktop app or a web browser — not inside the mobile app. The two supported routes, according to Discord's own Help Center, are: go to discord.com/redeem while logged into the correct account, or open the desktop app and go to User Settings > Billing > Payment Methods and choose the redeem option there. Enter the code exactly as it was delivered, press Redeem, and your updated balance appears on screen. From there you select Get Nitro or Get Nitro Basic to spend that balance on a subscription. One thing to check before you buy anything: Discord states that gift cards can only be redeemed in the country they were purchased in, so your account's Country/Region has to match the card's currency.

First, work out which type of code you have

Several different things get sold under the name "Discord Nitro gift card", and they do not redeem the same way. Check your delivery email before you start, because using the wrong screen is the most common reason a valid code appears to fail.

• A Discord gift card (wallet balance code). Adds prepaid balance you then spend on Nitro, Nitro Basic, Nitro gifts for friends, Shop items, Server Boosts, and in-game purchases in supported titles. Redeemed at discord.com/redeem or in the desktop app's Billing section.
• A Nitro gift link. This is prepaid subscription time rather than wallet balance. It usually looks like a discord.com/gifts/... URL. You open the link in a browser, or press Open gift and then Accept gift if it arrives in a DM, or paste it under User Settings > Gift Inventory > Redeem Codes.
• A partner or promo code. Redeemed through the partner's own flow, often with eligibility rules such as being limited to accounts that never held Nitro.

Step by step: redeeming a balance gift card

On the desktop app

1. Log in and confirm you are on the account you actually want the balance on. Discord states that gift card balances cannot be transferred between accounts once redeemed, so there is no undo here.
2. Select the cogwheel next to your username to open User Settings.
3. Go to Billing > Payment Methods and select the gift card redemption option.
4. Enter the code exactly as provided, including dashes if they are part of it, and follow the on-screen prompts.
5. Press Redeem. Your updated balance appears on screen.
6. Choose Get Nitro or Get Nitro Basic, or head to the Shop to spend the balance on cosmetics or Boosts.

In a browser

1. Go to discord.com/redeem and log in.
2. Paste the code and confirm.
3. Open discord.com to spend the balance. Purchases apply across every device signed into that account.

On a phone

Per Discord's help pages, redeeming a gift card and spending balance are not available in the mobile app. The documented workaround is a mobile browser: redeem at discord.com/redeem, then open discord.com there to buy Nitro. Nitro gift links are a separate case and can generally be accepted in-app from a DM, so mobile behaviour depends on which product you hold.

Where to find your code

A digital code arrives by email or in your account area on the store you bought from. Regional restrictions — the part most guides get wrong

This is where honesty matters more than a clean answer. Discord's own help documentation states that its digital gift cards are, at the time of writing, sold in the United States through select retailers, with expansion to more countries described as in progress. It also states plainly that a gift card can only be redeemed in the country it was purchased in, and that redemption is blocked if your account's Country/Region does not match the card's currency. The codes sold here are USD and listed as Global in the sense that anyone can purchase them from anywhere. That is not the same as being redeemable on any account. If your Discord account region is set to a non-USD country, a USD balance card may be refused. Some third-party codes route through a partner redemption portal instead of discord.com and may behave differently again. 5. Already claimed. For gift links, a "gift has already been claimed" message means the link was used and cannot be reused or moved between accounts.
